Ambien (zolpidem) is intended for people diagnosed with insomnia (sleep problems). Before starting the treatment talk to your health care provider and tell him if you are allergic to this medicine (to be more exact – its active ingredient zolpidem), as you will be unable to take this medicine then. Always make sure you report any medical conditions you have, as this may be very important in determining the dose and form of Ambien you are going to need. Also let your doctor know if you are taking any other medications besides Ambien or are planning on taking them in the nearest future. The following ones will need to be reported first thing: medications for anxiety, colds or allergies meds, tranquilizers, sedatives, other sleeping pills, antidepressants, mental illness drugs, or seizure medications. Ambien is FDA pregnancy category C, which means it is not known for sure whether this medicine will affect the health of an unborn baby. It's therefore recommended to avoid taking this drug if you are pregnant without previously talking to your health care provider. Make sure you store this drug in some place where it will not be accessed by other people to whom it was not prescribed.
